Abstract: Augmented Reality is increasingly used for enhancing user experiences in different tasks. The present paper describes a model combining augmented reality and artificial intelligence algorithms in a 3D model of an area of the city of Coimbra, based on information extracted from OpenStreetMap. The augmented reality effect is achieved using a video projection over a 3D printed map. Users can interact with the model using a smart phone or similar device and simulate itineraries which are optimized using a genetic algorithm and A*. Among other applications, the model can be used for tourists or travelers to simulate travels with realism, as well as virtual reconstructions of historical places or remote areas.
