Formação de verbos em -ar em português

Abstract

O presente trabalho consiste na análise de verbos em -ar em português, com base nominal ou adjectival, que não apresentam, de forma claramente inequívoca e individualizada, um elemento de carácter afixal. Trata-se, assim, de verbos que seguem o esquema genolexical [[X]RN/RA [a]VT [r]MI]V. Num primeiro momento, problematiza-se o processo de formação subjacente a este tipo de formações, equacionando-se duas possibilidades distintas: derivação por sufixação e conversão. Analisam-se as virtualidades e defeitos de cada um deles, considerando-se que o quadro da derivação se adequa melhor aos diferentes processos de formação de verbos em português. Num segundo momento, procede-se à análise morfológica, sintáctica e semântica das bases nominais e adjectivais que potenciam os verbos em estudo. Estabelecido o quadro das bases, observam-se os produtos construídos, em termos argumentais e semântico-categoriais. Constata-se que, embora abranjam um leque bastante variado de significações, os verbos que partem de bases nominais e adjectivais não marcados em termos afixais denotam, dominantemente, acções realizadas com recurso ao que a base denota. Verificados as bases e os produtos, equacionam-se as Regras de Formação de Palavras (RFP’s) subjacentes a este tipo de produtos, concluindo-se que a eles presidem duas regras: RFP MUDANÇA e RFP INSTRUMENTAL. Constatando-se, diariamente, que os verbos em -ar são bastante frequentes, analisam-se, em termos morfológicos, argumentais e semântico-categoriais algumas produções recentes, com um número significativo que tem na sua base nomes de origem inglesa

This thesis intends to analyse Portuguese verbs, formed from nouns and adjectives, that end in –ar and do not clearly bear an affix as a distinct element. These are therefore verbs that follow the word-formation pattern [[X]NS/AS [a]TV [r]IM]V (NS stands for Nominal Stem; AS stands for Adjectival Stem; TV stands for Theme Vowel; and IM stands for Infinitive Morpheme). Firstly, this work intends to argue the procedure underlying this kind of word- -formation, analysing two different patterns: derivation by suffixation and conversion. We will examine with further detail the reliability of each one, pointing that conversion pattern fits better the different verb formation processes in Portuguese language. Afterwards, this work will analyse morphologically, syntactically, and semantically the nominal and adjectival bases of these verbs. Once we get the bases framework, we’ll look into the new verbs through argumental and semantic-categorial terms. Despite having a wide semantic scope, verbs formed from nouns and adjectives having not affixes indicate predominantly actions achieved having recourse to what the base points out. An analysis of the bases and the products will question the Rules of Word- -Formation (RWF) underlying this kind of products; therefore we’ll conclude that there’s two rules related to these products: RWF CHANGE and RWF INSTRUMENTAL. Bearing in mind that the verbs ending in –ar are regularly used in common speech acts, a morphological, argumental and semantic-categorial study of recently produced verbs will disclose that an important set issues from English-based nouns
