Para falar com as pessoas : uma análise contextual de apropriações diferenciadas da língua portuguesa por sujeitos migrantes

Abstract

Estar imigrado num outro país significa, além de um novo estatuto sócio-jurídico, habitar em novos universos simbólicos organizados por diferentes lógicas experienciais, nos quais a língua, enquanto sistema de representação simbólico, assume um lugar importante nos processos de integração cultural.

Através de uma abordagem contextual assente em narrativas de vida de dois sujeitos imigrados constata-se que o re-aprender de novos capitais culturais requer um trabalho de negociação perante novas situações interactivas habitadas por relações de poder desiguais. Em múltiplas situações este processo induz ao desenvolvimento de estratégias identitárias perante aqueles com quem interagem, de forma a se recolocarem entre outros. A aprendizagem da língua portuguesa mostra-se um veículo eficaz no processo de integração, na medida em que, possibilitando a comunicação, implica também um processo de re-localização de significados, traduzindo não só uma adaptação e reprodução social como também uma acção reflexiva, estratégica, empoderadora e transformativa dos indivíduos que, enquanto sujeitos agentes, recriam a sua realidade subjectiva e actuam sobre a realidade envolvente. Trata-se de um exercício estratégico identitário de natureza contra-hegemónica que visa acima de tudo a procura de uma visibilidade e reconhecimento social pela qual o migrante pretende alcançar um lugar como cidadão e como pessoa.

Being a migrant in another country means, beyond a new socio-legal status, to live in a new symbolic universe organized by different experiential logics, where the language as a system of symbolic representation takes an important place in the processes of cultural integration. Through a contextual approach based on life narratives of two immigrants - Fadíla, a Moroccan woman, and Vlad, a Romanian man – it becomes clear that the re-learning of new cultural capital requires a process of negotiation in new interactive situations inhabited by unequal power relations. In diverse situations this process leads to the development of identity strategies towards those with whom they interact in order to relocate themselves among others. The learning of Portuguese language appears to be an effective vehicle in the process of integration in a sense that, allowing communication, it also enables a process of re-location of meanings. This process reflects not only an adaptation and social reproduction as well as a reflexive, strategic, empowering and transformative action of the individuals who, while subject agents, recreate their subjective reality and act on the surrounding reality. This strategic identity exercise is a counter-hegemonic one aiming above all to achieve a social visibility and recognition through which the migrant seeks to reach a place as a citizen and as a person. This case study pretends to present migrants as cultural agents that through their individuality perceive sensitive and emotionally their contingentiality, trying to build a place through the difference they claim. It is crucial for anthropology to turn visible the subjectivity embedded in the complex dynamics of social relations, and to understand the logics underlying the ways through which and with which the subjects see and present themselves in the world.
