Diferenças tradutivas entre o Português Europeu e o Português do Brasil: algumas observações num contexto específico de Tradução Técnica

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem por objectivo descrever as actividades realizadas e a experiência adquirida no âmbito do estágio curricular efectuado na empresa Traversões – Serviços Linguísticos, Lda., bem como discutir as temáticas abordadas durante esse período de um ponto de vista teórico-prático. Este Relatório enquadra-se no grande domínio dos Estudos de Tradução, com enfoque no pensamento funcionalista e na Tradução Científica e Técnica, particularmente no contexto da tradução de manuais de utilizador. Para tal, é feita uma breve abordagem a estes conceitos, procurando estabelecer a base para uma reflexão crítica da tradução de um manual de utilizador por mim realizada no âmbito do estágio. A tradução do referido manual, tendo sido efectuada para Português Europeu com base numa tradução semelhante para Português do Brasil, permitiu-me sistematizar algumas diferenças e semelhanças entre estas duas variantes. Neste trabalho, ao mesmo tempo que avalio e reflicto sobre as minhas capacidades de tradução, descrevo as maiores dificuldades encontradas, sobretudo as que decorrem do facto de ter uma outra variante da Língua Portuguesa como base para a minha tradução. Este trabalho procura ainda contribuir para a pesquisa no domínio das diferenças e semelhanças entre o Português Europeu e o Português do Brasil em contexto de tradução de documentos técnicos.

This paper aims fundamentally to describe the work carried out and the experience acquired during my curricular internship as a translator, hosted by the translation company Traversões – Serviços Linguísticos, Lda. It also aims to discuss, from both a theoretical and a practical point of view, the subjects addressed during my time there. The general framework of this Report is the domain of Translation Studies, focusing on the Functionalist approach of translation and on Scientific and Technical Translation, and particularly on the translation of User's Manuals. For that purpose, an approach to these concepts is presented, seeking to provide the basis for a critical analysis of the translation of a User’s Manual that I performed within the scope of the internship. The User’s Manual was translated from English into European Portuguese, with the support of a similar translation into Brazilian Portuguese. This has allowed me to gather and systematise some of the differences between these two variants of Portuguese. In this paper, I assess and reflect on my translation skills while describing the most important obstacles that had to be tackled during my translation process, in particular those which arose from the fact that I was using a different Portuguese variant as a support for my translation work. Finally, this paper also aims to contribute to the research on the subject of the similarities and differences between European and Brazilian Portuguese in the context of the translation of technical documents.
