dc.description.abstract | This monography focuses on Sappho‟s four major pieces (fr. 1 PLF, fr. 31 PLF, fr. 16 PLF and fr. 58 PLF/P.Köln. 21351). Each chapter corresponds to a fragment and can be analyzed separately and referred to without requiring any prior background knowledge of what was written in either the previous or the following chapters. The first chapter (fr. 1 PLF) presents a reading of the poem where I analyze the use of prayer structures and their purpose in conceiving the potential construction of the nature of love. The second chapter, corresponding to the analysis of fr. 31 PLF, brings together the main theories about this, the most studied fragment of Sappho, and seeks to establish the positions of contrast between the three figures in the composition and their meaning. The third chapter, which proposes a reading for the fr. 16 PLF, is concerned with the notions of relativism and aesthetic delight and their direct relationship with love. The fourth and final chapter, about the fr. 58 PLF/P. Köln 21351 - the most recent discovery among Sappho's poetry -, explores the dichotomies of youth/old age and mortality/immortality. | por |
