dc.description.abstract | Pancreatic cancer (PC) represents one of the most aggressive and devastating solid tumors, characterized by having a high incidence and an poor prognosis. The current therapeutic strategies are often unsatisfactory since the majority of patients do not survive more than a year after the diagnosis, therefore it is of utmost importance the development of new therapeutic approaches. In recent years, immunotherapy has provided encouraging clinical results. Dendritic cells (DCs) are the most potent antigen-presenting cells (APCs), performing a dual role in the induction of innate and adaptive immunity, as well as in the induction of tolerance by T cells. DCs-based vaccines have shown promising results in some types of cancer and several studies have explored the therapeutic benefit of these vaccines in patients with PC. | por |
