Documentação medieval do Mosteiro de Santa Maria de Alcobaça : sécs. XIII-XVI : edição e estudo linguístico

Abstract

O objectivo geral desta dissertação é dar continuidade à linha de investigação em Dialectologia medieval portuguesa iniciada por Clarinda de Azevedo Maia em 1986, com a publicação de História do Galego-português, tendo agora como fonte uma colecção documental (maioritariamente inédita) oriunda da região Centro-litoral portuguesa, mais concretamente dos fundos de um centro geo-sociocultural nevrálgico na cultura portuguesa medieval aí implantado – o Mosteiro de Santa Maria de Alcobaça. Com este trabalho, pretende-se, assim, apresentar a situação linguística (nas suas diversas vertentes) da referida região entre os finais do século XIII e os meados do século XVI, bem como proceder à sua comparação com a que é oferecida pela primitiva área galego-portuguesa. Por outro lado, atendendo à escassez de estudos de "arqueologia" linguística medieval, em boa parte devida à escassez de fontes transcritas segundo critérios linguísticos, pretende-se contribuir para uma melhor definição/delimitação do chamado "período arcaico" do português, proporcionando um conhecimento mais profundo do processo de formação dos chamados "Dialectos centro-meridionais portugueses" bem como da conjuntura social que envolveu a génese da "língua-padrão". Foi, assim, ampliado, neste trabalho, o leque de fenómenos (não só de natureza morfológica como também fonético-fonológica, sintáctica e semântica) que configuram, no seu conjunto, cronologias importantes para a elaboração de uma história da língua portuguesa alicerçada em critérios de natureza linguística. Para a prossecução deste projecto de intersecção entre Dialectologia e História da língua, foi seleccionado (com base em critérios de natureza histórico-cronológica, geográfica e tipológica) e transcrito um corpus de 153 documentos originais de carácter particular oriundo da colecção Mosteiro de Alcobaça, 1ª e 2ª incorporações, existente no Instituto dos Arquivos Nacionais/Torre do Tombo.

The general aim of this dissertation is to continue the line of research in medieval Portuguese dialectology begun by Clarinda de Azevedo Maia with the publication in 1986 of História do Galego-português. It is based on a corpus of documents, mostly unpublished, from the central coastal region of Portugal, concretely from the collection of a geo-sociocultural nerve-centre of medieval Portuguese culture – the Monastery of Santa Maria de Alcobaça. The research aims to present the various aspects of the linguistic situation in the region between the end of the 13th and the middle of the 16th century, and to compare this with what is found in the original Galician-Portuguese area. Furthermore, in view of the scarcity of studies of medieval linguistic ‘archaeology’ (mainly due to the lack of sources transcribed according to linguistic criteria), the intention here is to contribute to a better definition/delimitation of the so-called "archaic period" of Portuguese, along with a deeper understanding of the process of formation of what have been called the "central-southern Portuguese dialects" and the social milieu which surrounded the birth of the ‘standard’ language. This study has therefore widened the range of phenomena (not only morphological but also phonetic-phonological, syntactic and semantic) which, seen as a whole, present chronologies which are important for developing a history of Portuguese founded on linguistic criteria. For this project, which spans the border between dialectology and the history of the language, a corpus of 153 distinct original documents was selected (on chronological, geographical and typological criteria), and transcribed from the Monastery of Alcobaça collection, 1st and 2nd "Incorporations", kept in the National Archives Institute/Torre do Tombo.
