With the increase of the incidence and prevalence of chronic diseases worldwide, more patients need to start some kind of therapy, pharmacological or not, and adequate adherence to said therapy is needed for them to experience all the benefits that it can provide. The goal of this thesis is to synthesize all the base knowledge a health care provider needs to learn in order to intervene in the area of adherence to therapy. Firstly, the current definition of adherence, as well as the factors by which it can be negatively affected. Since that information is not enough to execute a successful intervention, the methods that can be used in an attempt to solve it and the tools that are being developed and perfected to measure and determine the extent of the non adherence are also mentioned. Finally, in the end section, the role of the pharmacist in this matter is analyzed based on current reviews. |
