A coleção quinhentista da Biblioteca Gulbenkian Paris: contributo para a elaboração de um catálogo de Livro Antigo

Abstract

Research is, nowadays, increasingly characterized by its multidisciplinarity and, therefore, the present study intends to cover two areas of knowledge: Information Science and the History of the Book. When associating CI to the study of the Old Book, it was sought, in a first moment, to theorize CI while Social sciences, as well as the methods for her used for, later, to apply them to the case study that came.In this sense, the general aim of this thesis is to study the collection of Antique Books of the Gulbenkian Library in Paris in the sixteenth century, with a view to its knowledge and appreciation. In turn, the specific objectives are: to carry out the survey of works related to the sixteenth century; exhaustive characterization of this corpus; and, finally, to prepare a catalogue of the selected works that will allow the later availability and dissemination of the collection. The methodology leading this investigation was based on a case study that made possible a descriptive analysis of this collection. The results obtained allowed the preparation of a catalogue of the sixteenth century works of the Gulbenkian Library in Paris, making possible its future availability online. This work led to the conclusion that the Gulbenkian Library in Paris has an old sixteenth century book collection of high historical and patrimonial value that deserves to be studied, valued and made available on national and international open access collaborative platforms and which, finally, may bring its knowledge to a wider audience.

A investigação, hoje em dia, caracteriza-se cada vez mais pela sua multidisciplinaridade e, por conseguinte, este trabalho pretende abranger duas áreas do saber: a Ciência da Informação e a História do Livro. Ao associar a CI ao estudo do Livro Antigo, procurou-se, num primeiro momento, teorizar a CI enquanto Ciência Social, bem como os métodos por ela utilizados para, posteriormente, aplicá-los ao estudo de caso que se apresentou. Neste sentido, o objetivo geral desta dissertação é estudar o acervo de Livro Antigo da Biblioteca Gulbenkian Paris atinente ao século XVI, tendo em vista o seu conhecimento e valorização. Por sua vez, os objetivos específicos são: efetuar o levantamento das obras respeitantes ao século XVI; proceder a uma caracterização exaustiva desse corpus; e, por fim, elaborar um catálogo das obras selecionadas que permita a posterior disponibilização e divulgação do acervo. A metodologia que conduziu esta investigação baseou-se num estudo de caso que possibilitou realizar uma análise descritiva desta coleção. Os resultados obtidos permitiram a elaboração de um catálogo das obras quinhentistas da Biblioteca Gulbenkian Paris, possibilitando a sua futura disponibilização em linha. A realização deste trabalho permitiu concluir que a Biblioteca Gulbenkian Paris possui uma coleção de livro antigo quinhentista de elevado valor histórico e patrimonial que merece ser estudada, valorizada e disponibilizada em plataformas colaborativas nacionais e internacionais de acesso aberto e que, em última análise, possibilitem o seu conhecimento a um público mais alargado.
