A Desinstitucionalização Psiquiátrica em Portugal: Reinserção social do doente mental na região de Lafões do distrito de Viseu.

Abstract

This project is a study of the evolution of psychiatric practices in Portugal, more specifically in the Lafões region. I pursue, through interviews and theoretical work, an understanding and analysis, inside an historic and evolutionary context, how the psychiatric practices are changing and are understood by its actors. Using interviews made to psychiatrists, nurses, general practitioners, directors of support clinics and institutions, specifically ASSOL (Associação de Solidariedade Social de Lafões; Solidarity and social association of Lafões) and others that are or were associated in the development of this process in Lafões, Viseu. I intend to shed light on the paradigm changes that have been forming since the beginnings of psychiatry until the present, focusing on the theme of deinstitutionalization of mental patients and in the practices around social inclusion. Creating a qualitative analysis of the ideological, historical, political and social context in which the process of deinstitutionalization developed.Through comparisons of the historical evolution of psychiatry in Portugal, in Europe and the world and through a bibliographic investigation focused on the historical study of the medical discipline, I try to fit deinstitutionalization of mental illness in Viseu district inside of the European and global context. Understanding the regional nuances and trying to contribute to the study of this process using a local analysis, while being aware that, mental illness changes in the sociocultural perception through time, place to place and between different groups of people.

Este trabalho é um estudo acerca da evolução das práticas psiquiátricas em Portugal, mais especificamente na região de Lafões. Pretendo, através de entrevistas e trabalho teórico, entender e analisar, dentro de um contexto histórico e evolutivo, como as práticas de tratamento de doenças mentais se têm vindo a alterar e como estas são entendidas pelos seus atores. Através de entrevistas a psiquiatras, enfermeiros, médicos gerais, diretores de instituições de apoio, mais propriamente da ASSOL (Associação de Solidariedade Social de Lafões) e outros envolvidos neste processo, na região de Lafões do distrito de Viseu, pretendo compreender as mudanças de paradigma que se têm vindo a formar ao longo da história da psiquiatria até aos princípios do século XXI, focando, sobretudo, a desinstitucionalização de doentes mentais e a sua reinserção social fazendo, assim, uma análise qualitativa do contexto ideológico, histórico, político e social em que o processo da desinstitucionalização se desenvolveu.Através de comparações da evolução histórica da psiquiatria em Portugal, na Europa e no mundo e de uma investigação de literatura que se ocupa do estudo histórico desta disciplina médica pretendo encaixar a desinstitucionalização da doença mental no distrito de Viseu dentro do contexto Europeu e mundial. Compreendendo as nuances regionais e tentando contribuir para o estudo deste processo através de uma analise local, tendo em conta que, a doença mental se vai mutando na perceção sociocultural ao longo do tempo e em lugares e grupos de pessoas diferentes.
