Emoções, cuidados e artes do ofício: O trabalho de clown em contextos de intervenção social.

Abstract

A presente dissertação consiste num estudo de cariz sociológico sobre as práticas e representações dos profissionais que realizam trabalho de clown em contextos de intervenção social. As atividades e conceções destes profissionais relativamente às atividades que realizam e ao modo como elas se inserem em termos sociais, organizacionais e contextuais permite explorar problemáticas das ciências sociais que têm vindo a ganhar relevo e a marcar os debates atuais ao nível da teoria social – a dimensão emocional da vida humana e dos relacionamentos sociais; as práticas de cuidado nas interações humanas e a mobilização de recursos de cariz artístico e lúdico com finalidades de satisfação de múltiplas necessidades de determinados segmentos da população. Apesar de não ser totalmente nova a existência do trabalho de clown em contextos de intervenção social, tanto em Portugal, como no resto do mundo, os estudos e pesquisas sobre este tema não são abundantes, sobretudo em relação ao diálogo que é possível estabelecer entre expressões e metodologias artísticas, as práticas do cuidado, a diversidade de experiências no âmbito do trabalho emocional ou do sentir e suas possíveis ramificações em diversos campos das ciências humanas. A partir dessa perspetiva, procede-se, nesta dissertação, a uma reflexão crítica e um enquadramento teórico alicerçados nas abordagens de vários autores que procuram não só debater a dimensão sociológica das emoções, mas também as relações existentes entre a área dos cuidados e a da arte (entendida nos seus diferentes géneros bem como na sua mobilização em contextos de terapia), além do tratamento da natureza e especificidades do trabalho de clown. A pesquisa de que a presente dissertação dá conta teve como base um trabalho empírico assente numa abordagem qualitativa, tendo sido efetuadas entrevistas a mais de uma dezena de profissionais que realizam trabalho de clown em contextos de intervenção social. Deste modo, foi possível recolher e analisar informações sobre indivíduos que trabalham para entidades distintas e que apresentam perfis diversificados (em termos de sexo, idade, nacionalidade, trajetória escolar, formativa e profissional, etc.). Este estudo mostra de que maneira o trabalho de clown em contextos de intervenção social ganha forma no cruzamento de diversas esferas, competências e lógicas sociais (arte, terapia, prestação de cuidados, dinâmicas emocionais) o que possibilita que forneça pistas úteis para pesquisas futuras em muitas outras atividades profissionais distintas, mas que partilhem algumas das características centrais das práticas das pessoas aqui entrevistadas.

This thesis is a sociological study about the practices and representations of the professionals who perform clown work in contexts of social intervention. The activities and conceptions of these professionals in relation both to the activities they carry out and to the way they are envolved in social, organizational and contextual domains allow us to explore issues in the social sciences that have gained prominence and also mark the current debates at the level of social theory - emotional dimension of human life and social relationships; the care practices in human interactions and the mobilization of artistic and recreational resources with the purpose of satisfying the multiple needs of certain segments of the population. Although the existence of clown work in contexts of social intervention, both in Portugal and in the rest of the world, is not entirely new, studies and research on this subject are not abundant, especially in relation to the dialogue that can be established between artistic expressions and methodologies, practices of care, the diversity of experiences in the field of feeling-work and their possible ramifications in various fields of the human sciences. Following this perspective, this thesis proceeds to a critical reflection and a theoretical framework based on the approaches of several authors who seek not only to discuss the sociological dimension of the emotions, but also the relations existing between the area of care and that of the art (understood in its different genres as well as its mobilization in contexts of therapy), besides the treatment of the nature and specificities of the work of clown. This research presents an empirical work based on a qualitative approach that included interviews concerning more than a dozen professionals who perform clown work in social intervention contexts. In this way, it was possible to collect and analyze information about individuals who work for different entities and who have different profiles (in terms of gender, age, nationality, school, training and professional trajectory, etc.). This study shows how the work of clown in contexts of social intervention takes shape in the crossing of several spheres, competences and social logics (art, therapy, care, emotional dynamics), which enables it to provide useful clues for future research in many other professional activities that share some of the central characteristics of the practices of the people interviewed here.
