A amálgama do tempo: uma abordagem filosófica em função das imagens

Abstract

Esta tese de doutoramento é resultado do trabalho de pesquisa e prática artística, desenvolvido entre 2015 e 2019, no Colégio das Artes da Universidade de Coimbra, e busca dialogar com os temas da memória e do tempo, também abordados na história das imagens, na filosofia e em um panorama cultural das sociedades ocidentais. Por meio do estudo aprofundado da arte da memória, definiu-se como estrutura basal um tripé conceitual: lembrança, esquecimento e invenção, abalizado na teoria das imagens cuja importância é central para o assunto investigado. O tema do tempo é, portanto, introduzido a partir do campo mnemônico, e o tripé conceitual é modificado para as novas questões que se instauraram, inaugurando os seguintes conceitos: permanência, mudança e renovação. Consequentemente, defendeu-se para o tempo um caráter múltiplo e coexistente dentro da natureza amalgamada do próprio conceito em termos culturais e artísticos. Perante um tema de pouca determinação e escassas conclusões, buscou-se investigar em variadas áreas do conhecimento as iluminações daquilo que pode ser o tempo. Assim, como metodologia, essa tese está respaldada em um discurso criativo no qual ressalta-se a importância das imagens para a cultura que encontra, no entrelaçamento da memória com o tempo, um cerne estruturador das suas principais questões.

This doctoral thesis is the result of both the research and artistic practice developed between 2015 and 2019 at Colégio das Artes, University of Coimbra and dialogues with the topics: memory and time, also analyzed in the history of images, on philosophy and in a cultural panorama of occidental societies. Throughout a deep study of the art of memory a basal structure was defined in a conceptual tripod: recollection, forgetfulness and invention, appointed in accordance with a theory of images whose importance in central to the treated matter. The topic of time is, therefore, introduced from the mnemonic field and the conceptual tripod is modified according to the new issues that have been established, inaugurating the following concepts: permanence, change and renovation. Accordingly, is endorsed for the time a multiple and coexistent character within the amalgamated nature of the concept itself and in cultural and artistic terms. Towards the subject of little determination and scarcely conclusions, the investigation follows through different areas of knowledge, seeking illuminations of what may be time. Wherefore, as a methodology, the thesis is backed up in a creative discourse in which the importance of images is given by the interweaving of memory and time, what comes to frame the issues of its core.
