Their good patient acceptability and advantages over conventional routes of administration have motivated the investigation of this alternative drug delivery system. However, due to the development complexity and the difficulty these compounds show in crossing the skin, they only account for 0.50 % of the pharmaceutical market. Therefore, it is important to know the role of skin in this type of administration, how a transdermal patch works and how it can be improved. This will make it possible to understand the opportunity these products represent and the applications they may have.Transdermal patches are dosage forms applied on skin, aiming at exerting a systemic therapeuticeffect.
