Relatório de Estágio e Monografia intitulada “ Plantas medicinais em dermatologia"

Abstract

No âmbito da Unidade Curricular “Estágio” do Mestrado Integrado em Ciências Farmacêuticas da Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Coimbra, este documento apresenta dois relatórios de estágio e uma monografia intitulada “Plantas medicinais em dermatologia”. Os relatórios de estágio encontram-se estruturados segundo uma análise SWOT (Pontos Fortes, Fracos, Oportunidades, Ameaças), que dizem respeito ao estágio realizado em Farmácia Hospitalar, no Centro Hospitalar Tondela-Viseu (CHTV) e ao estágio realizado em Farmácia Comunitária, na Farmácia Costa em Viseu.Há várias gerações, que o Homem utiliza plantas ou compostos delas derivados para tratar diversos problemas de saúde. Atualmente na cosmética tem-se verificado um crescente aumento no interesse por produtos “naturais” e “cosmecêuticos” (que unem cosméticos e produtos farmacêuticos) para melhorar ou tratar a pele. Quer porque a população possui maior consciência ecológica, quer pela ineficácia ou efeitos secundários das terapêuticas convencionais ou por motivações estéticas. Dado que a população tem acesso diário a este tipo de produtos é essencial que os profissionais de saúde estejam atentos e atendam às necessidades e expetativas da sociedade. O objetivo deste trabalho é reunir informações sobre algumas plantas que podem ser utilizadas no acne, na dermatite atópica, na psoríase, na hiperpigmentação, nos danos provocados pela radiação Ultravioleta (UV), no vitiligo, em feridas, queimaduras e lesões cutâneas e no antienvelhecimento, destacando alguns dos seus aspetos benéficos, ingredientes ativos relevantes e mecanismos de atuação. Adicionalmente descrevem-se sucintamente os princípios básicos da pele e condições dermatológicas mais frequentes, assim como grupos de constituintes com interesse na dermatologia.

Under the context of the Curricular Unit “Internship” of the Integrated Master's Degree in Pharmaceutical Science of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Coimbra, this document presents two internship reports and a monograph entitled “Medicinal plants in dermatology”. The internships reports are structured according to a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis, regarding to a internship in Hospital Pharmacy in CHTV, and to an internship in Community Pharmacy at the Costa Pharmacy held in Viseu.For several generations, humanity has been using plants or their compounds for various health problems. Nowadays, in cosmetics the interest for “natural” products or “cosmeceuticals” (which unite cosmetics and pharmaceuticals) for skin treatment or improvement has increased. The reason could be higher ecological consciousness, the ineffectiveness or adverse effects caused by conventional therapy, or perhaps different esthetic motivations. Since the population has daily access to these products it is crucial for healthcare professionals to be aware of the needs and expectations of society. The major objective of this work is to collect information about some plants that could be used in dermatological pathologies, such as acnes, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, hyperpigmentation, damage caused by UV radiation, vitiligo, wounds, burns, skin injuries and in anti-aging, highlighting some of their benefits, the more relevant active ingredients and their mechanism of action. Furthermore, in this research we can find the description of the skin’s basic principles and most frequent dermatological conditions, mentioning compounds with interest in dermatology as well.
