Title: | Vacinas antitumorais baseadas em células dendríticas: conhecimento atual e perspetivas futuras | Authors: | Magro, Sandra Margarida Bento | Orientador: | Neves, Bruno Miguel Rodrigues das | Keywords: | Células dendríticas; Vacinas contra o cancro; Neoplasias | Issue Date: | Sep-2015 | Place of publication or event: | Coimbra | Abstract: | As Células Dendríticas (DCs) são células apresentadoras de antigénios com uma
capacidade única de induzir e modular respostas imunitárias. Capturam e processam
antitumorais.
Dendritic cells (DCs) are antigen presenting cells with an unique ability to induce and modulate primary immune responses. These cells sense and process potential danger signals and posteriorly transfer the information to the cells of the adaptive immune system. DCs are not only critical to induce immune response, but they are also very important to the maintenance of immune tolerance. These unique functional characteristics render DCs a very attractive tool to the design of cell immunotherapies, namely to the development of anti-tumor vaccines. Our substantial progress, in recent years, on the knowledge of the tumors and DCs immunobiology enabled the development of anti-tumor vaccines in a more rational way. Therefore, the next generation of anti-tumor DC-based vaccines can be the basis to the massification of cell immunotherapy to treat cancer patients. |
