Biography
Daniela Rodrigues research interests include the study of childhood obesity and associated determinants, namely: physical activity, sedentary behaviors (focusing on screen time) and diet patterns. She earned a PhD Fellowship from FCT to study the socio-ecological determinants of children's participation in extracurricular sports and its association with obesity levels. The PhD in Anthropology, specialization in Biological Anthropology, from University of Coimbra was concluded in 2018 with the highest grade. Since 2013, she is a member of the Research Centre for Anthropology and Health (CIAS) - Human Biology, Health & Society Group - of the Univ. of Coimbra, which main objective is the study of the determinants of health and well-being in past and living societies from a bio-cultural perspective. From 2018 to 2021, Daniela was the responsible for the management duties of CIAS and was involved in most of the outreach activities. Daniela has also been actively involved in the organization of scientific events such as conferences and meetings. She is also the editorial assistant in the peer-review journal Antropologia Portuguesa (ISSN 0870-0990). As a researcher, Daniela has published several articles, has participated in several national and international scientific meetings, and is a member of national and international scientific associations in the field of obesity, physical activity and health. Additionally, she's been collaborating with several research teams in national (e.g., Center for Health Studies and Research, Univ. of Coimbra) and international universities (e.g., Loughborough University, UK). Daniela has also provided assistance in some classes in Human Ecology, where she taught graduate students how to collect samples for genetic analysis, including genotyping, and body mass and fat measurements using bio-impedance. In October 2020, she won a contract as a Researcher from the 3rd edition of the Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus (CEEC) from FCT (2020.03966.CEECIND), that start October 2021. In CEEC, Daniela will study the screen media use trajectories in a new cohort of Portuguese preschool-aged children. In February 2022, she was awarded with the Best Scientific Text-Young Biologic Anthropologist by the Portuguese Anthropological Association.
