Da Integração Orgânico-Funcional à Convergência Digital: O Caso dos Serviços de Biblioteca, Informação Documental e Museologia da Universidade de Aveiro

Abstract

Archives, Libraries and Museums (ABM), as information systems and services (Gomes, 2016) "have traditionally been institutions empowering their users by providing equal access to knowledge, culture, and information of vital importance. This holds true even in the present situation, characterized by the ubiquity of the digital" (Audunson et al., 2020, p. 2). At the University of Aveiro (UA), the Library, Documentary Information and Museology Services (SBIDM) "have the mission of acquiring, processing, making accessible and disseminating information resources, but also enriching, conserving and preserving bibliographic collections", the holdings of the "institutional archive and museum collections" (Library, Documentary Information and Museology Services, 2023).The general aim of this study is to analyze the challenges and obstacles in the digital convergence between the libraries, the archive and the museum at the AU. The specific objectives are to: Understand the evolution of ABM information systems; Describe national and international ABM metadata aggregation projects; Characterize the information resources of the SBDIM-UA and their descriptive representation, as well as the technological systems used; Identify the vision of SBIDM-UA information professionals with regard to the organization and representation of information and the implementation of a technological solution that aggregates descriptive metadata; Present the basic structure of a digital convergence plan for the SBIDM-UA. The methodology adopted includes a literature review and a case study in an organic university institutional context, using documentary research and an interview survey.The results obtained include: convergence between the holdings and collections of libraries, archives and museums aims to better serve the user; the digital products that result from the organization and representation of information in ABM are different, as they result from the descriptive standardization adopted in each disciplinary area; in SBIDM, the perception of professionals about the obstacles and challenges in digital convergence is relevant for future work to be developed. The conclusion is that understanding the obstacles and challenges faced by information professionals is essential for implementing a technological solution that aggregates descriptive metadata and allows searching from a single access point.

Na Universidade de Aveiro (UA), os Serviços de Biblioteca, Informação Documental e Museologia (SBIDM) “têm como missão adquirir, tratar, tornar acessíveis e disseminar os recursos de informação, mas também enriquecer, conservar e preservar as coleções bibliográficas”, o acervo do “arquivo institucional e as coleções museológicas” (Serviços de Biblioteca, Informação Documental e Museologia, 2023).Este estudo tem como objetivo geral analisar os desafios e obstáculos na convergência digital entre as bibliotecas, o arquivo e o museu da UA. Como objetivos específicos pretende-se: Compreender a evolução dos sistemas de informação ABM; Descrever projetos de agregação de metainformação de ABM nacionais e internacionais; Caraterizar os recursos de informação dos SBDIM-UA e a sua representação descritiva, bem como os sistemas tecnológicos usados; Identificar a visão dos profissionais da informação dos SBIDM-UA no que respeita à organização e representação da informação e à implementação de uma solução tecnológica agregadora de metainformação descritiva; Apresentar a estrutura base de plano de convergência digital para os SBIDM-UA. A metodologia adotada compreende a revisão de literatura e um estudo de caso em contexto orgânico institucional universitário, mediante pesquisa documental e inquérito por entrevista.Dos resultados obtidos destaca-se: a convergência entre os acervos e coleções de bibliotecas, arquivos e museus visa melhor servir o utilizador; os produtos digitais que resultam da organização e representação da informação em ABM são distintos, pois resultam da normalização descritiva adotada em cada área disciplinar; nos SBIDM-UA, a perceção dos profissionais acerca dos obstáculos e desafios na convergência digital é relevante para o trabalho futuro a desenvolver. Conclui-se que perceber os obstáculos e desafios no labor dos profissionais da informação é essencial para a implementação de uma solução tecnológica agregadora de metainformação descritiva que permita a pesquisa a partir de um único ponto de acesso.
