ensino superior, 50 pais e 50 estudantes do 12º ano.
secundário e do ensino superior).
Many are the archaeological and bibliographical elements that indicate the consumption of alcohol tens of thousands of years ago before Christ. However, over time this subject has reached massive proportions in various countries and carries with it problems of various levels, either for the person himself, or for family and society (aggression, unemployment, health expenses, homicide, traffic accidents, among other things). In turn, this intake is due to factors of various natures being the socio-cultural ones most evident. Beliefs and false concepts associated to alcohol are still today badly deconstructed and accepted as undisputed truths instead. It is among young adolescents and adults that literature reveals a greater preoccupation because it is here that we see a larger number of consumers and, more than that, the intake pattern is of the binge drinking type, in other words, the intake of large quantities in a short time. So, it is necessary to question the preventative measures and reformulate them in order to reduce consumption, more specifically through the alteration of legislation. In view of the above, this study‟s objective is to understand the opinion of young people from the Coimbra district, attending year 12, their parents and young people attending university, also in Coimbra, regarding different possible legislation alterations, namely the reduction of the breathalyzer rate and the statutory minimum age for the sale of alcohol. This investigation falls under the range of quantitative studies of the descriptive-correlation type. A self-completing questionnaire was applied to 100 university students, 50 parents and 50 year 12 students. From this study the following conclusions emerged: a sample with a significant percentage of alcohol consumers (63%) was found, being the majority of the consumers either from secondary school (50%) or from university (84%). Although this is a literate sample, which identifies alcohol problems as being of a great dimension (95,5%) and that they interfere with state of health (98%), it turns out that the information available is wrongly organized as many still believe in misconceptions and have a consumption pattern of the binge drinking type (35,2%). On the other hand, they show high levels of agreement in relation to preventative measures of the educational extent (about 80-90%),however when the question is made in relation to more restrictive measures which interfere directly with the individuals, the situation changes quite a lot. For example, only 24,7% of those questioned agree with an increase in the cost of drinks. Namely, the law of offer and demand is present here, because if offer was to be reduced with an increase in price, demand would also fall since people would not agree with the price increase. Nevertheless, the same sample is equally open to the alteration in legislation related to the breathalyzer rates and the minimum aged allowed for the sale of alcohol because about ¾ of the sample agreed with any one of the proposals. This is also a sample where the results of the application of the CAGE point to a significant number of individuals that already show some concern and the number of individuals that present abuse/dependency (8%) is also significant. As for the hypotheses established, there is no relation between the majority of the false concepts and the group, as well as among these and the genus. Now, in relation to the hypotheses that relate the group to the proposal of law changes, massive consumption, CAGE, subjection to breathalyzer tests and a positive result, the hypotheses are confirmed and in some cases the relation is quite significant. From this analysis we can confirm that worry falls more on young people (in other words, secondary school and university students). In short, regarding the characteristics found in this sample, taking action against this public health problem is justifiable with measures that produce short term effects. |
