Cyberbullying: um fenómeno emergente nos jovens portugueses

Abstract

A presente investigação teve como objetivo verificar a ocorrência e frequência do cyberbullying em duas escolas situadas em contextos sócio demográficos distintos. Para além disso, pretendeu-se verificar os tipos de cyberbullying praticados, os meios e equipamentos usados, os motivos e os sentimentos gerados pelo cyberbullying, tanto na perspetiva das vítimas como na perspetiva dos agressores. Pretendeu-se também observar as percepções dos participantes quanto às relações com a família e quanto ao ambiente na escola. A amostra é constituída por 467 alunos pertencentes aos distritos de Coimbra e Leiria, com idades compreendidas entre os 9 e os 16 anos, que frequentam o 5º, 6º, 7º, 8º e 9º ano de escolaridade. Os resultados demonstram que 10,1% admitiram ter sofrido de cyberbullying pelo menos uma vez no último ano e 5,1% confessaram ter sido agressores. Os dados obtidos revelam um cenário preocupante perante um tema cada vez mais emergente na nossa sociedade, acompanhado pela constante evolução das tecnologias da informação e comunicação.

The present investigation aimed to verify the occurrence and frequency of cyberbullying in two schools located on different socio demographic contexts. In addition, we sought to verify the types of cyberbullying practiced, means and equipment, the motives and feelings generated by cyberbullying, from the victims and aggressors perspective. It was intended to also observe the participants' perceptions regarding relationships with family and within school's environment. The sample consists of 467 students from the districts of Coimbra and Leiria, aged between 9 and 16 years, attending the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grade. The results demonstrate that 10.1% admitted having suffered cyberbullying at least once in the last year and 5.1% admitted having been aggressors. The data shows a worrying scenario before a theme emerging in our society, accompanied by the evolution of information technologies and communication.
