In today's world, due to the high competitiveness between companies and the evolution of technology, a new industrial revolution is imminent (Industry 4.0). This has led to the necessity of adaptation to this new reality, where the manufacture of complex and customizable parts is crucial. The solution to these new needs may well be the use or integration of Additive Manufacturing (AM).The present Master's dissertation focuses on the assessment of the quality presented by the polymeric parts produced by Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and subtractive processes, in order to verify for which situations the implementation or integration of AM processes in the company’s production line will be economically feasible and efficient. However one of the problems that derived with the use of these techniques was the roughness of the surface. In order to minimize this limitation, the pieces produced in AM had to undergo post-processing . For the parts produced by FDM sandpaper and acetone were used as post-processing, for the SLS abrasive blasting was used. When comparing the characteristics of the pieces produced by each method it is verified that the subtractive processes present mechanical properties slightly superior to the AM. From the two AM techniques chosen, the SLS presented the best mechanical properties, except for the roughness of the pieces, this variance can be explained by the difference in density presented in the components produced by SLS and FDM. |
