O texto do discurso "Contra Ctesifonte" de Ésquines a partir do ms. Res. 463 da BNP: Introdução, edição crítica, tradução e notas

Abstract

A tese que agora se apresenta é uma edição crítica do texto do discurso "Contra Ctesifonte" de Ésquines, orador grego do século IV a.C. Esta tese compreende uma primeira parte introdutória com os dados biográficos, literários e históricos do autor. Dá conta, em seguida, da história da transmissão do manuscrito, o "Reservado 463" da Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal, cujo interesse filológico motivou esta nova edição crítica. No âmbito da introdução ainda, explica os motivos da nova edição crítica, apresentando para isso, análises filológicas das novidades e das relações de dependência e contaminação que o manuscrito português estabelece com os manuscritos e famílias de manuscritos para o texto de Ésquines, incluindo a nova colação do manuscrito espanhol (Matritensis 4693) e também da edição aldina de Ésquines. A segunda parte, que contém a edição crítica em si, é antecedida por compêndios de autores antigos e modernos, siglas utilizadas no aparato crítico, lista de códices de manuscritos e lista de papiros ordenados numericamente. Na terceira parte, apresenta a primeira tradução completa deste discurso em língua portuguesa, acompanhada de notas explicativas. Em anexo, por fim, inclui um índice de nomes próprios e topónimos referidos na tradução; uma tabela que analisa 1045 unidades críticas opondo manuscritos e famílias de manuscritos entre si, analisando as relações de dependência entre eles; inclui também imagens do manuscrito português, espanhol e da edição aldina, assim como também de alguns fragmentos de papiro que exemplificam alguma análise textual, descrita no aparato crítico. Por fim, apresenta uma bibliografia atualizada e recente, tanto quanto possível.

This thesis is a critical edition of the speech "Against Ctesiphon", from the fourth century BC Greek orator Aeschines. This thesis has three main parts, the first of which is an Introduction that presents the biographical, literary and historical data of the orator. It then gives details of the history of the manuscript's transmission, the "Reservado 463" of the National Library of Portugal, from which the critical edition was thought out and derived. To conclude this part, this thesis argues the grounds for this new critical edition, it analyzes the originality of the manuscript and the relations that are established between manuscripts and the Aeschinean families of manuscripts and also the relationship established between the Portuguese one and the Spanish manuscript (Matritensis 4693) and the Aldine edition of Aeschines. The second part, the critical edition per se, is preceded by compendia of ancient and modern authors, abbreviations used in the critical apparatus, the codices of manuscripts and a numerically ordered list of papyri. In the third part this thesis provides the first complete translation of this speech to the Portuguese language, followed by explanatory footnotes. In the appendix it includes a proper noun and toponymic index referred to in the translation; a table that analyses 1045 critical units where manuscripts and families of manuscripts essay their relation of dependence; it also includes images of the Portuguese and Spanish manuscripts and of the Aldine edition, as well as papyri fragments that show some philological analysis described in the critical apparatus. In the end there is an up-to-date bibliography as far as possible.
