The efficiency of deposition of material through Laser Cladding typically ranges from 50 to 80%, because high amounts of powders are wasted which, at the end of the year, represent significant costs. This dissertation, carried out in an industrial environment, has the purpose of studying the effect of the application of recycled powders on coatings obtained by Laser Cladding. For this purpose, the two materials most used by the company in 2018 were studied: MetcoCladTM 6, a Cobalt superalloy, and MetcoCladTM 52052, a matrix of Nickel reinforced with Tungsten Carbide. This paper is divided into two parts. The first concerns the characterization of the powders, where the shape, size and chemical composition of new powders with one and two uses were analyzed. The second part discuss the characterization of the coatings obtained with the new and reused powders, being analyzed the morphology, the microstructure, the chemical composition, the microhardness, the macrohardness and the abrasion resistance. Finally, an economic analysis was made to estimate the costs reduction that the company may have by implementing the application of recycled powders.Through this study, it was possible to conclude the viability of the reuse of powders. For the MetcoCladTM 6 powders, the mechanical properties decrease with increased reuse, however, depending on the customer's requirement, these powders can be used. For MetcoCladTM 52052 powders, the mechanical properties do not undergo significant variations over the two reuses. |
