Estágio na unidade funcional de patologia forense do Instituto Nacional de Medicina Legal e Ciências Forenses - delegação do centro

Abstract

A prática médica na área da Medicina Legal e Ciências Forenses reveste-se de enorme complexidade e rigor, em que o cumprimento de normativas nacionais e internacionais e o respeito pela leges artis devem ser tidos em conta na execução dos procedimentos periciais.Assim, e no âmbito do Mestrado em Medicina Legal e Ciências Forenses, a mestranda optou pela realização de um estágio em Patologia Forense, visto ser a área em que apresenta maior interesse, e que entende necessitar de maior treino prático, o qual envolva observação e participação em investigação de mortes violentas ou indeterminadas. O estágio teve lugar na Unidade Funcional de Patologia Forense da Delegação do Centro do Instituto Nacional de Medicina Legal e Ciências Forenses, e decorreu por um período aproximado de 3 meses, contabilizando 400 horas na sua totalidade. Com isto pretendeu reforçar conhecimentos sobre a estrutura, organização, funcionamento e articulação deste Instituto, em especial da sua Delegação do Centro, compreendendo a envolvência da Medicina Legal em Portugal. Do mesmo modo, e através de contato direto com o trabalho desenvolvido nesta área, procurou interpretar determinantes de mortalidade e achados em contexto de autópsia, atendendo às técnicas mais corretas para a execução da mesma e à adequação e interpretação de exames complementares em cada situação. A descrição do trabalho desenvolvido faz-se no presente relatório de estágio, abrangendo uma exposição sumária dos diferentes aspetos apreendidos e respetiva análise crítica.

Medical practice in the Legal Medicine and Forensic Science’s field is extremely complex and rigorous, therefore compliance with national and international standards, as well as the leges artis, must always be taken into account when carrying out any expert procedure.Thus, and within the scope of the master’s degree in Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, the master’s student opted on an internship in Forensic Pathology since it is considered to be a core subject by the master’s student, and an area that requires practical training to be mastered, namely by observing and participating in the investigation of violent or undetermined deaths. The internship took place at the Functional Unit of Forensic Pathology of the Center Delegation of the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, during a period of approximately 3 months, in a total of 400 labor hours. This internship aimed to reinforce the knowledge about the structure, organization, function and articulation of said Institute, in particular its Center Delegation, for a better understanding of the role of Legal Medicine in Portugal. Likewise, and through a direct approach to the work developed in this area, the master´s student sought to interpret determinants of mortality and autopsy findings, given the most correct techniques for autopsy execution and the suitability and interpretation of complementary exams in each situation.The work developed is described in this internship report, covering a summary of the different aspects learned and its respective critical analysis.
