Da colecção ao território: novas leituras do património musealizável do concelho de Porto de Mós

Abstract

The twentieth century, in result of the democratization of societies, launched and affirmed, in part, a change of paradigm when it comes to the museological practices, which came to consider as determinant the relationship between the museum institution and the social environment in which it stands. The broadening of the concept of "museological object" and of the very conception of cultural heritage, has allowed the integration of various testimonies of human activity into the category of material culture, hitherto disregarded, and has also commanded the patrimonial heritage of the communities to be perpetuated and communicated not only through the collection but, above all, as the starting point for the construction of narratives, for the discussion of perspectives, for intervention in society. Based on these assumptions, this dissertation proposes the creation of a Territory Museum for the municipality of Porto de Mós, starting from new interpretations of the existing heritage in the light of the principles of the New Museology. It reflects and analyzes the reality of the existing Municipal Museum, of purely traditional foundation, and recommends specifically the requalification of the old Thermoelectric Power Station, built in the beginnings of the twentieth century, to be the headquarters of this museum, considering its worth in terms of historical memory and its importance as an example of industrial heritage in the regional panorama. The current study also suggests the action of this museological structure to be extended and reflected outside the walls of the museum, by identifying polarization points and defining partnerships that, together with the singularities of the territory, will promote the growth and development of new activities, adding value and recognition to the cultural practices of museology, from a perspective of affirmation.

O século XX, em virtude da democratização das sociedades, lançou e afirmou, em parte, uma mudança de paradigma no que diz respeito às práticas museológicas que passaram a considerar como determinante a relação da instituição museal com o meio social em que está inserida. O alargamento do conceito de “objecto museológico” e da própria concepção de património cultural vieram não só possibilitar a integração de testemunhos diversos da actividade humana na categoria de cultura material, até então, desconsiderados, como exigir que a herança patrimonial das comunidades se perpetue e se comunique não apenas a partir da colecção mas, sobretudo, que esta seja o ponto de partida para a construção de narrativas, para a discussão de perspectivas, para a intervenção em sociedade. Partindo destes pressupostos, a presente dissertação sugere a criação de um Museu do Território para o concelho de Porto de Mós, a partir de novas leituras do património existente, com base nos princípios da Nova Museologia. Considera e analisa a realidade do actual Museu Municipal, de fundamento puramente tradicional, e propõe especificamente a requalificação da antiga Central Termoléctrica, dos inícios do século XX, como núcleo sede deste museu, atendendo ao seu valor de memória e à sua importância enquanto exemplar de património industrial, no panorama regional. Propõe, de igual modo, que a acção desta estrutura museológica se prolongue e se reflita fora das paredes do museu, a partir da identificação de polos e da definição de parcerias que, em articulação, promovam o incremento e o desenvolvimento de novas actividades, acrescentando valor e reconhecimento à prática cultural museológica, numa perspectiva de afirmação, a partir das singularidades do território.
